Victory Day Paragraph for HSC (Standard Version)
Victory Day, observed on 16 December, commemorates the triumphant end of the nine-month Liberation War of 1971 and the birth of Bangladesh as an independent nation. After the brutal attack of 25 March, the Bengali people rose as one. Students, farmers, workers and men and women of every profession joined the freedom fighters, while the Mujibnagar government led the war from exile and millions of refugees took shelter across the border. The Pakistani army carried out mass killings, burnt villages and tortured the people, but the spirit of the nation could not be broken. In the last days of the war, the Indian forces joined the Bengali forces in a joint command, and on the afternoon of 16 December 1971 the Pakistani army surrendered at the Race Course Maidan in Dhaka. The sacrifice of millions of martyrs and the honour of many mothers and sisters had won us a country. Every year, the day begins with a gun salute and floral tributes at the National Memorial at Savar, and parades, cultural programmes and special broadcasts follow. Yet the true meaning of victory is not in ceremonies alone. We must keep alive the spirit of 1971 by rejecting hatred and corruption, honouring the freedom fighters and building a just, peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh.
Victory Day Paragraph Bangla Meaning (HSC, Standard Version)
