For centuries, the boat has been the true vehicle of Bengal. In a land crossed by hundreds of rivers, the sound of oars and the call of the boatman are as familiar as the call of the muezzin. My own journey by boat last monsoon made me realise why poets of this land have loved the river so deeply.
