International Mother Language Day Composition for Class 9-10 and SSC
21 February is a day of pride, sorrow and inspiration for every Bengali. It is now observed all over the world as International Mother Language Day.
After the creation of Pakistan in 1947, the rulers tried to make Urdu the only state language, although the majority of the people spoke Bangla. The students and people of East Pakistan protested. On 21 February 1952, police opened fire on a procession in Dhaka, and Salam, Barkat, Rafiq, Jabbar, Shafiur and others were martyred. Their sacrifice forced the government to recognise Bangla as a state language in 1956.
On 17 November 1999, UNESCO declared 21 February as International Mother Language Day, and the world observed it for the first time in 2000. This was a unique honour for Bangladesh.
On this day, people walk barefoot at dawn to the Shaheed Minar, place flowers and sing ‘Amar Bhaiyer Rakte Rangano’. The day teaches us to love our own language and to respect all languages of the world.
International Mother Language Day Composition Bangla Meaning (Class 9-10 and SSC)

International Mother Language Day Composition for HSC
Very few nations have given their lives for the right to speak their own language, and fewer still have seen that sacrifice honoured by the whole world. The Bengalis of 21 February 1952 achieved both.
After the partition of India in 1947, the rulers of Pakistan, in Karachi, declared Urdu to be the sole state language, though more than half of the population of the country spoke Bangla. Language is not only a means of communication but the vessel of a people’s culture and dignity, and the Bengalis could not accept the insult. Protest meetings and processions gathered under the leadership of students. On 21 February 1952, despite a ban on assemblies, students marched towards the Dhaka Medical College area, and the police fired on them. Salam, Barkat, Rafiq, Jabbar and Shafiur fell. The Shaheed Minar, built in their memory, became the symbol of resistance, and the Language Movement planted the seed of Bengali nationalism that grew to the Liberation War of 1971.
On the proposal of Bangladesh, UNESCO declared 21 February as International Mother Language Day on 17 November 1999, and it has been observed worldwide since 2000. The aim is to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
Today, when many languages of the world are dying every year, the day carries an urgent message: protect every mother tongue, including those of the small ethnic communities within our own country.
In conclusion, Ekushey February is not only a memory but a responsibility, the duty to use our language with love, to improve it and to respect the languages of others.
International Mother Language Day Composition Bangla Meaning (HSC)
