A picnic is a pleasant outing which refreshes our body and mind. Last January, our class arranged a picnic at Sonargaon, and it was the most enjoyable day of the year.
A week before, we formed committees for food, transport and games. On the morning, we gathered at school at seven and left in two buses, singing songs on the way. After a two-hour journey, we reached the place.
We first visited the Folk Art Museum, where we saw old pots, dolls and fishing tools. Then we played football and hide and seek on the green field. At noon, we sat under a big banyan tree and shared khichuri, egg curry and fruit. After lunch, we held a quiz contest and sang in chorus.
We left at four in the afternoon and reached home in the evening, tired but happy. The picnic gave us joy and also taught us the value of cooperation.

In the busy routine of a student, a picnic is like a window opened to the fresh air. The picnic that our college organised last winter at Madhabkunda, I remember, was one of the brightest days of my student life.
The planning itself was a lesson. We collected a small subscription, chose a date after the examination, hired a bus and distributed duties. A few classmates took charge of food and others of first aid, so that nothing was left to chance.
On the day, we reached the waterfall of Madhabkunda by noon, after a long journey through the green hills of Moulvibazar. The sound of falling water and the cool mist made us forget all fatigue. Some of us bathed at the foot of the fall, some walked on the forest path and some simply sat on the rocks and talked. Teachers joined in our games without any barrier of age. The lunch we ate together on banana leaves tasted better than any restaurant food.
Returning in the evening, I thought that the real joy of a picnic is not in the place but in the company. It breaks the walls between teacher and student and rich and poor, and it teaches discipline and cooperation without a single lecture. Such outings should be arranged regularly for the health of students’ minds.
