Bangladesh is a land of six seasons, and among them spring is my favourite. It is called the king of seasons.
Spring comes after winter, in the Bengali months of Falgun and Chaitra. The weather is neither too hot nor too cold, and the soft southern wind carries the smell of new flowers. The leafless trees put on fresh green leaves, and the flowers of palash, shimul and krishnachura paint the earth red. The sweet song of the cuckoo fills the air from morning till evening.
The season has its own festivals. On Pahela Falgun, young girls and boys, dressed in yellow and red, walk through the streets with flowers in their hair, and the Ekushey Book Fair brings the lovers of books together.
I love spring because it brings hope and joy after the dry, cold winter. Everything seems to be born again, and my mind also feels fresh.

My Favourite Season Composition for HSC
The Bengali year moves through six seasons like six movements of a symphony, and the most joyful of them is Basanta, the spring. When the dry winter ends and the first warm wind arrives from the south, I feel that life itself has changed its tune. That is why spring is my favourite season.
The season arrives in the month of Falgun, in February and March. After the long sleep of winter, the earth wakes with a smile. The branches that were bare a few weeks ago burst with tender leaves, the mango trees are covered with fragrant blossoms and the red flowers of shimul and palash seem to set the forests on fire. In the early morning, the cuckoo’s call, which poets have praised for centuries, travels over the fields yellow with mustard.
The cultural life of the country also blossoms. On Pahela Falgun, the streets of Dhaka become a river of yellow saris and flower garlands. The Ekushey Book Fair, held in this season, carries both the memory of the Language Movement and the joy of reading. Lovers of literature and music gather under the open sky.
Other seasons have their charm, but they come with a cost: summer is scorching, the rainy season is muddy, autumn is short and winter makes the old suffer. Spring, however, is gentle to all, with its mild weather, light clothes and bright colours. It also gives the farmer’s heart peace, as the harvest of winter crops is near.
In short, spring is the season of hope. It teaches us that after every hard time, a new beginning is waiting, and for this lesson I love it above all other seasons.

বাঙালি বছর ছয় ঋতুর মধ্য দিয়ে ছয় অংশের সিম্ফনির মতো এগোয়, আর এর সবচেয়ে আনন্দময় বসন্ত। শুকনো শীত শেষ হয়ে দক্ষিণ থেকে প্রথম উষ্ণ বাতাস এলে মনে হয় জীবনই সুর বদলেছে। তাই বসন্ত আমার প্রিয় ঋতু।
ঋতুটি ফেব্রুয়ারি-মার্চে ফাল্গুন মাসে আসে। শীতের দীর্ঘ ঘুমের পর পৃথিবী হাসিমুখে জাগে। কয়েক সপ্তাহ আগের ন্যাড়া ডাল কোমল পাতায় ফেটে পড়ে, আমগাছ সুগন্ধি মুকুলে ঢাকে আর শিমুল ও পলাশের লাল ফুল যেন বনে আগুন লাগায়। ভোরে কবিরা শতাব্দী ধরে যার প্রশংসা করেছেন সেই কোকিলের ডাক সরষে ফুলে হলুদ মাঠের ওপর দিয়ে ভেসে যায়।
দেশের সাংস্কৃতিক জীবনও ফোটে। পহেলা ফাল্গুনে ঢাকার রাস্তা হলুদ শাড়ি ও ফুলের মালার নদী হয়ে ওঠে। এই ঋতুতে হওয়া একুশে বইমেলা ভাষা আন্দোলনের স্মৃতি ও পড়ার আনন্দ দুটিই বহন করে। সাহিত্য ও সংগীতপ্রেমীরা খোলা আকাশের নিচে জড়ো হয়।
