Our National Festivals Composition for HSC
A nation’s festivals are the pulse of its life. The calendar of Bangladesh is bright with celebrations, and through them, the heart of the Bengali people, loving, hospitable and communal, is seen.
Religious festivals come in turn. The two Eids are the largest, when the whole country returns to villages, new clothes are worn, and the rich and the poor meet in the Eid prayers and share food. Durga Puja fills towns with lights and drums, Buddha Purnima brings the peace of the prayers, and Christmas is celebrated with carols and cakes. It is a beautiful feature of our society that the people of one faith often join in the joy of another.
Cultural festivals have no religious boundary. Pahela Baishakh, with the Mangal Shobhajatra of Dhaka University (recognised by UNESCO as a cultural heritage) and village fairs, is the greatest of them. The Nabanna festival thanks the harvest, and Pahela Falgun and Pahela Baishakh show our love for colour and music.
The national days, Language Martyrs’ Day on 21 February, Independence Day on 26 March and Victory Day on 16 December, hold a special place, because they are linked to the sacrifice of a nation. They teach patriotism and gratitude.
Socially, festivals strengthen family and community bonds, support local crafts and trade and give relief from daily hardship. Yet some dangers have appeared: extravagance, loud noise, traffic jams and occasional communal tension. The state and citizens should ensure that festivals are celebrated safely, inclusively and with respect for the poor.
In short, our festivals are the colours of our culture, and a nation that celebrates together stays together.
Our National Festivals Composition Bangla Meaning (HSC)
